Getting started in FarmVille can leave you with a ton of questions. To help you to get through the process quickly, this small guide will help to answer all of the most common questions and get you started playing sooner, rather than later.
Your Farmer – This is where you are able to change the features of your farmer. It includes gender, hair, skin color, and several facial features as well.
Walk – With only a single click of your mouse, you can get your farmer walking across the entire farm. Clicking on items will help you to actually plow squares, plant crops and other tasks as well depending on where you click and the tool that you have selected at the time.
Plowing – By clicking on the plow tool in the lower right corner, you will go into plow mode, this enables you to click on squares on the ground and plow them. For each square or plot that you plow, it will cost you 15 coins, and earn you a single experience point. If you plow the wrong area, you can use the demolish tool to remove the plot.
Planting – Putting something actually into the ground to grow is quite easy, by clicking on the Market button; you will be able to select exactly the type of seeds that you want. Within the market you will be able to see how much each type costs for each square in which it is planted. For each type of seed that you plant, you will earn between 0 or 4 experience points. With careful selection of the crops that you plant, it is possible to increase your level and your coin balance quickly.
Harvesting – To begin harvesting you need to have plants that are fully ripe; this can take between a few hours, to several days depending on the type of seeds that you planted. Clicking on a crop that is 100% complete will give you a menu and allow you to select Harvest. Click on each square that contains a ready crop in order to harvest them all. Be careful not to leave crops out for too long after they are ripe, they will spoil if left too long and will provide you with no coins when harvested then.
Experience Points and Levels – This provides a way for you to evolve in the game. The more experience points you have, the higher your level. By improving this through planting, plowing and taking care of animals, you will quickly move up through the ranks. The higher your level, the more types of seeds you can plant, trees to buy and other nifty features.
The Market – This is the ultimate in shopping for your farm. From seeds, to trees, and even animals and buildings if it can go on your farm it is included in the market.
Seeds are the basis of all crops, using seeds they are planted and then grow into crops that can be harvested. As you advance levels, more seeds are unlocked that pay not only better amounts when harvested, but also higher experience point levels.
Trees provide you with a bit of extra experience points, as well as coins. They do not rot when ripe, and can help you to also earn a few extra achievement ribbons for even more coins and points. With an array of trees to choose from, you can also be given almost all of them which gives you some great free crops! Trees usually can be harvested every 1-5 days, and offer a tiny boost to your balance.
Animals can be more than just cute; they are also great for getting some more coins, and achievements! With a few that are only available as gifts, some only for cash, and more for coins you can pick up a nice assortment pretty inexpensively. Animals can usually be harvested once every 1-2 days and provide a small boost to your coin balance.
Buildings are the backbone of storage, as well as classical farm appearance. With a range of buildings that includes houses, storage buildings, barns and even tents, you will quickly find what you want to use to place around your farm. With huge assortments in pricing, it can be a very expensive, or a quite cheap process.
Decorations are great for seasonal items and even special edition items. While these are not always desired all the time they can be good for some specific times of year, and with a storage building can be packed up nicely out of the way as well when you don’t want them out.
Expanding the farm is going to be important. After a short period of time you will start to run out of room. Having the ability to quickly and easily increase the size of your farm is important to keeping plenty of room available for crops. While you start out with a farm that is only 12×12, you can upgrade to various sizes.
Gifting – A great way to pass along goodies to your friends, as well as receive some free stuff for your farm. With a few rounds of gift giving, you and your friends can have a bunch of trees, plants and other items including some free fuel which can be a huge help around the farm.
Helping Friends and Visiting Farms – Everyone who is listed as a neighbor of yours in FarmVille is someone that you can not only go to visit on their farm, but also a person that you can help out. By going to visit your neighbors and help out, you can up some coins, experience points, plus your friends are more likely to return the favor. Remember, the more friends and neighbors you have, the more you will be able to upgrade your land as well. Different sizes are unlocked as you add neighbors, which makes it really important to get as many neighbors as you can.
Options – The ability to select from a few options makes it much easier to get the experience that you want out of FarmVille.
Sounds can be either turned on or off. If you are playing FarmVille and do not want to hear the sounds, being able to quickly turn off the sounds can be very helpful.
Music is something that you either love, or dislike. With a simple click of the mouse, you can turn this on or off quickly and not have it disturbing you while you are working around the farm.
Graphics quality is a big issue for many. While FarmVille is a great game, it can be quite graphics intensive. To ease this on some computers that are not as good, having an ability to reduce the graphics quality can make it possible to enjoy FarmVille again.
